I have MS VC++ Introductory Edition and I was wanting to know if I can compile the Half-Life Dll with it. I know it has a limitation of not be able to distribute programs created with it. Would this limitation prevent me from compiling and distributing the Half-Life Dll? Thanks BigGuy

I imagine you can comile it and use it on your own machine but the downer will be that you can't distribut your work... Where did you get it from and at what cost btw?

I got it with Sams Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days 3rd Edition at Barnes & Nobles for $50. I compiled the dll and it works, but when Half-Life runs the dll a dialog box comes up and requires you to press OK. BigGuy

How surreal! Well, you obviously won't be able to compile it...

I had the exact same question a few weeks ago, as I got the introductory edition as well. Turns out you can't compile the dll with that. Like you said, you get a splash window that buggers up the loading process. My solution was to go on eBay and grab a real copy of MSVC++. I got the professional edition for 40 bucks.

It will work for me just I would never need to distribute the file. I have done it enough now that it doesn't bother me, nothing really messes up just slows you down a bit. BigGuy
